What a way to kick off the 2026 World Cup! If you were looking for high drama, spectacular goals, and a rollercoaster of emotions, England’s 4-2 victory over Croatia in Dallas absolutely delivered. It was a game that showed the very best of our attacking depth, but also highlighted exactly where the hard work needs to begin on the training pitch.
The Harry Kane Show Keeps Us Alive
While the post-match headlines are rightfully buzzing about the second-half display, let’s be clear: we have Harry Kane to thank for keeping the wheels on the wagon early on.
England started brightly when Noni Madueke won an early penalty. Kane’s initial spot-kick was saved, but after a sharp VAR check showed the Croatian keeper moved off his line too early, our skipper didn't blink on the retake, burying it coolly.
When Croatia bounced back with a stunning long-range strike from Martin Baturina, it was Kane who stepped up again. He rose highest to power home a trademark header from a Declan Rice corner—tying Gary Lineker’s legendary record of 10 World Cup goals. Croatia struck right back in first-half stoppage time through Petar Musa to make it 2-2, leaving fans sweating, but Kane's clinical edge was the only reason we weren't staring down a deficit.
The Tuchel Half-Time Strip-Down
A messy 2-2 at the break clearly didn't sit well with Thomas Tuchel. Whatever calm exterior he shows the cameras, it’s safe to say the manager gave the squad a proper stripping-down at halftime. Kane later admitted that Tuchel demanded they go "full gas" and play their way, and the response was instant.
Just two minutes into the second half, a fired-up Jude Bellingham showed pure world-class quality. Off the back of Elliot Anderson's sharp pass, Bellingham drove forward from the wing, carving Croatia open to slot home a beautiful solo goal for 3-2.
Bench Magic Seals the Points
Croatia's keeper made a string of unbelievable saves to keep them in the tie, but Tuchel’s late substitutions ultimately broke their resolve. Injecting fresh energy, Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford came off the bench and immediately combined. Saka turned provider, and Rashford calmly placed the ball into the bottom corner to make it 4-2 in the 85th minute.
The Bright Side
There is no hiding from the fact that the defense had some serious early-tournament rust to shake off. Giving away two goals from poor marking is something Tuchel will want ironed out immediately.
But looking at the bright side, the character on display was phenomenal. Our captain led from the front, the manager showed he can light a fire at halftime, and our squad depth proved entirely lethal. Three points in the bag, plenty of goals, and a fantastic foundation to build on!
What a weekend of racing! If you caught the Barcelona Grand Prix, you witnessed a tactical masterclass that will be talked about for the rest of the season. Lewis Hamilton didn’t just win; he and Ferrari absolutely schooled the field, securing a historic 106th career victory and a record-breaking 7th win at this legendary track—officially moving him past Michael Schumacher for the most wins in Barcelona history.
While some might point to the late Virtual Safety Car and claim luck played a part, the data tells a completely different story. This victory was built on pure, unadulterated pace and flawless strategy. Ferrari brought a massive package of 8 upgrades to the SF26 for this weekend, and Hamilton unleashed every bit of that new potential, completely out-driving and out-manoeuvring both Mercedes and McLaren when it mattered most.
Even without the VSC intervention, Lewis had this race firmly under control. Looking at the closing stages, George Russell was struggling mightily over the final 10 laps as his tyres fell off a cliff. Hamilton’s relentless pace was already pulling him well clear, and by the time the chequered flag waved, he crossed the line a staggering 19.5 seconds ahead of Russell. The safety car didn't hand him the win—it just bunched up a pack that he had already soundly defeated.
It was a statement win that proves when legendary experience meets a perfectly upgraded car, magic happens.

Fantastic effort by the England Lionesses to beat Spain, but how many times are they going to wreck our nerves by taking it all the way to peno's?
So, while off enjoying our summer hols cruising around the Spanish coast, I get to watch the Club World Cup Final. What a game between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain. The Chelsea squad put in a proper shift, but Cole Palmer, João Pedro, Pedro Neto, Malo Gusto and the indomitable Robert Sánchez were just fantastic. Overwhelmed PSG from the first whistle and they just couldn't cope. Simply had no answer. 3-0 love it, Chelsea FC - Club World Champions. Outstanding! 🏆⚽🎉
